When is the best time to hike Mount Rinjani?

The best time to trek Mount Rinjani is during the dry season, which typically runs from April to December. During this time, the weather is generally clear and dry, making for better visibility and safer hiking conditions. However, it’s important to note that weather conditions can still be unpredictable, and hikers should always check the forecast before embarking on their trek. Additionally, it’s best to avoid the peak of the rainy season, which typically runs from January to March, as heavy rainfall can make trails muddy and slippery, and there is an increased risk of landslides.

Should I share a tent with strangers?

Don’t worry, sharing a tent with strangers is not required. Every participant will have their own tent or can choose to share with a partner, friend, or family member. Please let us know in advance who you want to share a tent with. Our tents are all 3-person dome tents with complete gear, providing ample space for a comfortable and restful night’s sleep during your hiking adventure.

Will I need to carry my own backpack or are there porters available?

Typically, you will be responsible for carrying your own pack during the trek. We recommend bringing a small bag to hold your clothes and any other personal items, keeping the weight under 7 kilograms. This bag will accompany you throughout the trek. Your guides will carry additional bottled water and snacks for you each day. Meanwhile, the porters will carry all the food, camping gear, cooking equipment, and extra drinks. If you need additional assistance with carrying your personal items, we can arrange for an extra porter at an additional fee. Please let us know in advance if you require this service.

What would be your recommendations for items to bring on the trek?

We recommend bringing a lightweight daypack per person, including clothing suitable for various weather conditions such as sunny, windy, cold, and rainy weather. Additionally, it’s important to bring a first aid kit or any necessary medications, and extra snacks or drinks for yourself during the trek. Don’t forget to pack warm clothes! Despite Lombok’s hot temperatures at sea level, Gunung Rinjani’s altitude means that the temperature drops by 4-6 degrees for every 1010m. The two main campsites on the crater rim are both above 2,710m, and temperatures can drop below 4°C after dark, while it’s just a few degrees above freezing at the summit.

Is it possible to hike Mount Rinjani with sneakers or running shoes?

While it is technically possible to hike Mount Rinjani with sneakers or running shoes, it is not recommended. The terrain can be challenging and unpredictable, with steep ascents and descents, loose rocks, and uneven paths. Hiking boots or shoes with good ankle support, sturdy soles, and good traction are recommended for a safe and enjoyable trek. Wearing proper footwear can help prevent injuries and ensure a more comfortable experience on the mountain.

Do you have facilities for storing luggage that I won't require during my hike?

Our hotel understands the needs of hikers, which is why we offer a secure luggage storage option for our guests. You can store your non-essential items with us and retrieve them when you return. And to top it off, our shower facilities are available for your use after your trek.

Do you need to bring a first aid kit?

We highly recommend it! Even if you don’t end up using it, it’s always better to be prepared. It’s a good idea to bring basic first aid supplies such as bandages, pain relievers, and antiseptic. Our guides are also trained in first aid and carry a comprehensive first aid kit with them.

Our guide will provide water at the beginning of the journey and will distribute it as per your request. You only need to bring one water bottle at a time, so you will always have enough water supply during the trek. We ensure that your water needs are met during the journey so that you can enjoy the trek without worrying about running out of water.
